Description:Recent record-setting high Great Lakes levels with resultant damage and the threat of rising sea level have emphasized the need for increased understanding of coastal processes, leading to better coastal management. This workshop brought together Great Lakes researchers and administrators to identify research needs and the roles that each organization can play in meeting those needs. Actions were recommended in the areas of field experimentation, baseline data collection, analysis of existing data, instrumentation, and numerical modelling. Since the workshop, concrete progress has been made in implementation of the recommendations.
