Description:Galveston Bay, Texas is a heavily industrialized, urban estuary with a long history of pollution. It is subjected to intense port and shipping activities, massive industrial discharges and major domestic sewage loadings from urbanized centers of population. This publication examines the long-term trends in water quality and fisheries resources for Galveston Bay. Three major topics are covered: (1) pollutant loadings in the drainage basin, (2) estuarine water quality, and (3) fisheries. The report also provides background information about the estuary and discusses major environmental issues facing resource managers.
