Description:To balance all the uses and users of our coastal resources, government has laws, regulations and state commissions. And the legislators who drafted the laws and established the commissions included provisions for the public to participate. This guidebook is designed to help citizens develop an understanding of how coastal management works, based on the experiences of groups and individuals who have learned how to contribute to and improve our coastal management process. It describes in everyday language the meaning of the laws and how citizens can become involved in their enactment, regulation and enforcement. It covers the federal Clean Water Act, the N.C. Coastal Area Management Act and the N.C. Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act.
