Description:

A proposal to construct a public soft-shelled crab shedding facility in Salem County, New Jersey, is under consideration. This study contributes to an evaluation of the feasibility of such a facility by providing (1) background on the blue crab industry; (2) an assessment of blue crab resource potential; (3) an evaluation of marketing opportunities for peeler and soft shell blue crab produced in south New Jersey, including direct sales to restaurant markets; (4) a determination of Salem County crabber interest in a centralized facility for Salem County; (5) general parameters for a shedding operation; and (6) three options for County consideration.
