Description:As the Tanner crab fishery management plan is refined, it must be based on a synthesis of information concerning both the biology of the species and the socio-economic factors governing the fishery. In this paper we discuss from a biological perspective the two most important aspects of establishing a minimum size limit for crabs taken in the fishery--(1) maximizing yield and (2) maintaining a high reproductive potential in the population.
