Description:As part of an effort to gain knowledge about sockeye salmon of Bristol Bay on which to base management and forecasting, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS; formerly U. S. Bureau of Commercial Fisheries) began an intense long-term study of sockeye salmon of the Naknek and Ugashik systems in the 1950's. Included as major efforts were programs for monitoring smolt migrations, adult escapements, and catches.
