Description:The primary objective for this project in 2004/05 was to intensively collect commercial catch samples from the Atlantic herring fishery throughout the Northeast. Additional sampling responsibilities beyond the herring fishery were also incorporated into this project: 1. Incorporate the collection of Atlantic mackerel samples from the east coast pelagic fishing fleet. 2. Implement a bycatch survey of the Atlantic herring fishery through collection of data at processing facilities. 3. Assist with port and sea sampling of Atlantic halibut during the federal experimental fishery and Maine state waters fishery.
