Description:

This safety manual, modeled on a popular North Pacific guide, provides a definitive sourcebook for fishermen in the Atlantic region. Reviewed by the Coast Guard, as well as a committee of fishermen and others from Maine to Virginia. The twelve chapters deal with general safety in fishing and vessel operations, safety equipment and survival procedures, fire prevention and fire fighting, seamanship, navigation, weather, vessel systems and engineering, rules of the road, Coast Guard standards and procedures, stability, and medical emergencies. This manual was produced and funded in cooperation with the National Marine Fisheries Service Saltonstall-Kennedy Program, Rhode Island Sea Grant and the National Council of Fishing Vessel Safety and Insurance. It is adapted from the North Pacific Fishing Vessel Owners' Association and the Gulf Coast Vessel Safety Manuals.
