Description:"Oceanographic operations consisted of conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) casts down to 1000 m depth at predetermined stations along the transect lines (Fig. 1), mostly at every 0.25°. Water samples were collected at each full degree for nutrients, chlorophyll-a and chloropigments. Discrete chlorophyll-a samples were filtered at sea and chloropigment samples were stored in liquid nitrogen for later laboratory HPLC analysis. Bioacoustic backscatter, currents, and sea surface temperature and salinity were continuously monitored during the entire cruise. Zooplanktonic organisms were sampled typically at every 1°, using an Isaacs-Kidd Midwater Trawl (IKMT)"--Type of operation.
