"An assessment of ocean quahog (Arctica islandica) populations from the Middle Atlantic, Southern New England and Georges Bank was last conducted in 1990. The current report represents an update, through October 1992, on the status of this species, Including analysis of nonrandom samples collected in Massachusetts Bay and In the Gulf of Maine. Two types of data were analyzed for this update: 1) commercial landings/fishing effort and 2) catch per tow from National Marine Fisheries Service research vessel surveys. Commercial data are obtained from all participants in the fishery through vessel logbooks"--Srummary.
