Description:The objective of this study is to characterize the American eel population and commercial fishery in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay and selected tributaries. Characterization data, such as length, weight, age, and relative abundance (catch per unit effort) are collected from fishery dependent and fishery independent sampling. This information is critical in stock assessment and subsequent management of the species in Maryland and along the Atlantic coast.
