Description:Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs) are an effective tool for studying the potential impact of future observing systems, such as the Configurable Reflectarray for Electronic Wideband Scanning Radiometry (CREWSR), which is currently funded for technology maturation through the NASA Instrument Incubator Program. In an OSSE, simulated observations of sensors, rather than real ones, are assimilated into numerical weather prediction (NWP) models.
