Description:This study lays the groundwork for the comprehensive and quantitative analyses that will be needed to assess the synergy among multiple different 3D winds observing strategies and optimize the performance of the observing system. In particular, this study provides an analysis of two fundamental types of wind measurement: active measurements using Doppler wind lidar, and passive measurements obtained by tracking the movement of features in high-time-resolution data. We examine these measurements individually, as well as in combination, using machine learning algorithms to quantify the synergies among active and passive measurements.
