The capability of advanced hydrologic and climate forecasting technology to significantly reduce the risk in water management decisions has been demonstrated (most notably in the Potomac River Basin, as described below). The Water Resources Forecasting Services (WARFS) Initiative will build on these technological advances and begin to provide water resource forecast services nationwide.
