Description:"The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies (IMMS) of Gulfport, MS, a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization, is proposing Ocean Expo in D'Iberville, MS, as a state-of-the-art aquarium and learning center that will provide both students and the general public an opportunity to learn about nature and marine mammals. The IMMS obtained approval under award number NA03NMF4690390 for the Center for Marine Education and Research. In March 2005, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) approved an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Center for Marine Education and Research, which did not address any construction sites within the boundaries of the City of D'Iberville. In February 2009, the Center for Marine Education and Research in Gulfport was completed and the award ended. IMMS also obtained approval under award number NA05NMF4691158 for Ocean Expo Complex. Hurricane Katrina unexpectedly prevented the construction of the complex. IMMS has since found a different site for the Ocean Expo complex, which is described in the supplemental EA. All of the construction will be completed using the federal funding received through 2009 under award number NA05NMF4691158"--Cover letter.
