Description:The Hawaii Coastal Zone Management Program, Office of State Planning, commissioned this report to examine methods of acquiring lands for shoreline access, wetlands protection, and mitigation of damage from coastal hazards. The report has four functions: 1) it describes methods of acquiring and protecting coastal land; 2) it surveys selected programs from other states; 3) it surveys existing government and private programs in Hawaii currently involved in coastal lands acquisition; and 4) makes recommendations concerning options available to government in Hawaii to improve the effectiveness of coastal lands acquisition efforts.
