Description:The event was a series of classic flash floods occurring from intense thunderstorms over a small area on the order of a 15-mile diameter circle in the steep mountainside country of Appalachia in extreme eastern Kentucky in the headwaters of the Tug Fork of the Big Sandy River. Three deaths were reported as direct results of the flash flood and damages may reach $13 million in Pike and Buchanan Counties.
