Description:The Norwegian sea fisheries did well in 1971. By size, the catch was below the peak year of 1967, but the value to the fisherman was the highest ever recorded. Investments in fishing craft were about the same as in 1970, while investments in gear increased by 25 percent. The input of man hours continued to decline. Capelin and spawning cod were the main species with increased landings. Landings of haddock and Norway pout also increased as did fisheries for horse mackerel and sardinella in the east central Atlantic waters.
