Description:Coastal islands of the United States have been surveyed and charted by the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey for well over a century. This important work is performed pursuant to hydrographic surveying, nautical charting and other investigations along our Nation's coasts. Data thus gathered are used to describe the major islands as they relate the geography of the coasts.
