Description:Estuarine property owners and local governments in North Carolina face difficult choices as they strive to select appropriate strategies to control erosion that are cost- effective and environmentally sound. This guidebook, one in four written for planners, managers, and property owners, offers a general understanding of the nature and causes of shoreline erosion, and introduces a number of management strategies. These involve: (1) basic elements of site evaluation, including parameters for evaluating specific sites; (2) stabilization options (e.g., wetlands planting, stone structures, vertical walls); and (3) the permit process.
