Description:Louisiana's Barataria Bay salt marsh can be considered a chemical system in the broadest sense. Chemical and microbiological oxidationreduction (redox) processes occurring in marsh soils influence plant rhizosphere conditions and the availability of plant nutrients. The lack or deficiency of oxygen results in the predominance of reduction processes that create an anaerobic plant root zone.
