Description:The results of the study indicate that while there are few "direct" subsidies paid to the industry in the form of per pound payments based on output, there are myriad sources of assistance for vessel and gear acquisition, insurance, fuel and supplies purchases, plant expansion, and other programs. While most of the subsidy programs involve relatively small expenditures by the government, in the aggregate the assistance provided to the industry is extensive.
