Description:In a collaboration with the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and the National Weather Service’s (NWS) National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), the National Ocean Service (NOS) has developed and transitioned the West Coast Operational Forecast System (WCOFS) to operations. WCOFS became operational on March 22, 2021, and is running within NOS’ Coastal Ocean Modeling Framework (COMF) on NOAA’s Weather and Climate Operational Supercomputing System (WCOSS). WCOFS is NOS’ first coastal Operational Forecast System (OFS) that assimilates real- time oceanic observations to improve the accuracy of the model prediction.
