Description:Although recertification is a requirement for military and scientific/academic divers, most recreational scuba divers oppose mandatory requalification, but safe diving calls for imposing personal voluntary requalification requirements. The author suggests criteria such as active diving experience (at least one dive per quarter and 15 per year), medical exams, and periodic retraining in `big brother-big sister' programs.
