Description:Silent or progressive hypothermia associated with slow cooling of the body appears to not produce shivering and thermogenesis until significant core temperature drop has occurred. Cumulative effects of hypothermia are evident in tropical as well as temperate and polar area diving, however, in the former case hyperthermia on deck (while dressed for diving) is also a potential hazard. Warning signals and precautionary steps are outlined.
