Description:A classification scheme has been develooped to segment the coastal areas of the Lake Erie system into 10 categories based on sensitivity to oil spills and discharges of other hazardous materials. As used here, the Lake Erie system includes that part of the Great Lakes, within the United States, from the head of the St. Clair river at Lake Huron to the mouth of the Niagara River at Lake Ontario. Lake St. Clair, the Detroit river and the navigible portions of the major tributaries are included as part of this system.
