Description:This Level-2 (L2) Environmental Data Record (EDR) provides active fire locations detected with VIIRS M-band (375 m) and I-band (750 m) channels onboard the Suomi-NPP and NOAA-20 satellites. Both the M-band and I-band products show good agreement in hotspot detection but the improved spatial resolution of the I-band data provides a greater response over fires with relatively small areas and provides improved mapping of large fire perimeters. The I-band product also provides improved nighttime performance. This data set is produced by the NOAA Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) and is distributed by the Comprehensive Large Array-Data Stewardship System (CLASS) as aggregated 10 minute TAR files consisting of 7 (86 second) granules in the NetCDF file format with metadata attributes included.
