Description:The NCEP Global Ensemble Forecast System (GEFS), by using a set of initial perturbations generated from EnKF analysis (Fig. 1; Zhou et al. 2016; Zhou et al. 2017), has been in daily operation since 1992. It has been providing reliable weather and week-2 probabilistic forecast guidance that has translated into valuable information for the general public.
