Description:This paper is a description of the procedures used by the Ocean Climate Laboratory (OCL) in the quality control of the historical oceanographic nutrient data archived at the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC). These procedures involve: (1) range checks of the observed level data for each major ocean basin as a function of depth; (2) statistical check of the interpolated standard level data; and (3) a check for unrealistic features after an initial computation of the objective analysis. Data were flagged along each step of the quality control and the flagged data excluded from further checks. The flagged observed and standard level data are available on CD-ROM.
