    A contract with the American Meteorological Society to compile relevant material from its own sources and from the catalogs of certain libraries initiated this bibliography. The first draft was sent to 33 drought experts in this country and abroad for criticisms and suggestions. Twenty-five replies were received with many positive criticisms and suggested additions. Unfortunately, some excellent suggestions arrived too late to be inserted by the—in some ways—inflexible machine procedures then available. As a result of the constructive reviews the bibliography was completely reclassified and edited. About one-fourth of the items were deleted as not relevant, and about 1,000 new entries were added bringing the total number of references to 3,150. Most of the abstracts are from Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA). Foreign titles and abstracts were translated by MGA personnel. The foreign title is accompanied by the translation or transliteration as pertinent. Documents with foreign language titles are published in that language. When translations are available this fact is noted.
