  • Description:
Today’s positioning of a vessel is accomplished by using either hyperbolic (LORAN), circular (Raydist), celestial, or satellite navigation systems. The use of these systems with onboard computers often has created problems for the navigator and computer programer who is faced with a variety of formulas for computing ships’ positions. This report is an attempt to clarify and simplify the formulas and procedures required to correctly compute the position of a vessel on the high seas.
