A study of selected scientific and engineering literature was conducted by the NOAA/NOS Test and Evaluation Laboratory to survey the state-of-the-art of wave measurement technology. Secondary references to earlier work can be found in the selected literature. Brief descriptions of representative wave sensors and their principles of operation are given.
