Description:The construction of vertical cross sections, horizontal charts, and temperature-salinity (TS) diagrams is a common procedure in analyzing oceanographic data. This process is time-consuming and error-prone when done by hand. Computer programs developed at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratories have automated the process and reduced the manpower requirements for the procedure (Niedrauer and Herman, 1978). These programs have been applied to the Expanded Water Column Characterization (XWCC) cruises sponsored by the Marine Ecosystems Analysis (MESA) Program for the New York Bight. The resulting horizontal and vertical profiles for temperature, salinity, sigma-t, and transmissivity are presented in this report along with TS diagrams as an aid to the analysis of this data base. By having the data in the same format, comparisons between cruises and between years is greatly faci1itated.
