Description:In this paper, we examined the distribution and use of rookery sites for California (Zalophus califormanus) and northern sea lions (Eumetopias jubatus) in the Southern California Bight (SCB) from about 1850 to the present. To augment population surveys that are being conducted in other areas of the California Channel Islands, we made a two-day survey of sea lion rookeries on Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, and Anacapa Islands. These rookeries had been inhabited previously by sea lions, although they have not been surveyed regularly in recent years.
