Description:This report is an attempt to describe the people, activities, equipment, situations, troubles and successes of the National Weather Service Olympic Support Unit at Lake Placid, New York during the exciting 38 day-period from January 20th to February 26th, 1980.
Many of you who couldn't make it up to the games probably watched some of it out there in front of the TV screen. This report will present a different perspective. What it was like behind the scenes . . . way behind the scenes. It is my hope to share with you some of the excitement, frustration, elation and experiences of one small group very busily involved in providing weather support to the 1980 Winter Olympics.
