Description:On October 1, 2013, NOAA Fisheries Service published a final rule (Federal Register 57314, V. 78, No. 181) implementing an 11 million pound whole weight (mp ww) total allowable catch for Gulf of Mexico red snapper. This catch level was the highest ever for red snapper and was allocated 51% to the commercial sector (5.61 mp ww) and 49% to the recreational sector (5.39 mp ww). The catch level is expected to remain at 11 mp through the 2014 season, but will be updated following the next stock assessment, which is scheduled for completion in winter 2014.
