Description:The Magnuson‐Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSFCMA) requires NOAA Fisheries Service to close recreational red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico when the quota is reached. Last year, the quota was projected to be reached in 53 days; however, due to area closures and reductions in fishing effort associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the quota was not reached during the June 1‐July 23 fishing season. NOAA Fisheries Service implemented an interim rule in fall 2010 reopening the red snapper recreational season on weekends (Friday‐Sunday) from October 1‐November 22, 2010
