Description:URSI Subgroup G/6/2 was charged with comparing available methods of real-height analysis of ionograms in order to determine the best method. Experts in the field who composed the subgroup attempted to compare all known available methods. The comparisons were made on the basis of the accuracy of the results obtained by each method in the analyses of a series of accurate numerical ionograms, with the correct results being known only to the chairman. Of those methods for which sufficient results were presented to allow definitive conclusions to be drawn, those of A. K. Paul (Boulder, Colorado, U.S.A.) and J. E. Titheridge (Auckland, N.Z.) proved to be the most promising.
