Description:Report describes characteristics of west coast marine managed areas (MMAs), showing how these types of place-based conservation are widely used in the west coast region. Summarizes how these MMAs are used to conserve marine resources and ecosystems, and contains the best available information on the purpose, management approach, and location of MMAs of the coasts of California, Oregon, and Washington. The report is intended to be combined with other regional analysis to provide the foundation for an effective national system of MPAs.
