Description:One-and two-dimensional methods of processing data from the FM/CW radar, through use of Discrete Fourier Transforms, are shown to be subject to the undesirable effect of 'range spreading', in which power associated with a particular range cell is smeared into other range cells because of high sidelobes on the range spectrum, thereby interfering with velocity spectra associated with other range cells. Efforts to solve the problem are described; weighting the data produces promising results; results of ad hoc methods of smoothing are less promising.
