Description:"Scientists from the Alaska Fisheries Science Center's (AFSC) Midwater Assessment and Conservation Engineering (MACE) Program conduct biennial echo integration-trawl (EIT) surveys (e.g., Honkalehto et al., 2002) along the eastern Bering Sea shelf during the summer to estimate the abundance and distribution of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma). This report summarizes observed walleye pollock distribution, and provides walleye pollock biomass and abundance estimates by size and age for the EIT survey conducted in June-July 2006 within the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). An inter-vessel acoustic comparison between the NOAA ships Miller Freeman and Oscar Dyson was also conducted during the cruise and results will be presented elsewhere"--Introduction.
