Description:In this study, we investigated how canopy affected salmonids through food and water temperature. The following questions were asked to determine how abiotic and biotic variables may affect the growth and survival of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) in tributaries of the West and White rivers, Vermont. 1. How does the amount of stream canopy contribute to the terrestrial component in salmon and trout diets? 2. Do differences in the amount of stream canopy affect instream summer temperatures? 3. Does instream summer temperature affect the salmonid community structure (i.e. can high instream temperatures exclude some trout species from streams)?
