  This grant was used by the Commission to continue work on an amendment to the Interstate Fisheries Management Plan for Shad and River Herrings (FMP), covering American shad (Alosa sapidissima), hickory shad (Alosa mediocris), alewife (Alosa pseudocharengus), and blueback herring (Alosa aestivalis). The Commission approved the original FMP in 1985 and the Commission's Shad and River Herring Management Board moved to amend the FMP in 1994 to meet contemporary conditions in the fishery. The schedule for completion of the FMP (Attachment 1) has been delayed from original estimates because of problems in locating and verifying existing data sets for these species from all 15 Atlantic Coast states.
