Description:The purpose of this project is to enable the Commonwealth to continue and expand its effort in the collection, processing and dissemination of commercial catch and effort data for inter-jurisdictional fishery species. Efficient and timely planning depends upon the consistent availability and analysis of accurate data. This holds true for marine fisheries, environmental management and research. This need has resulted in the involvement of the Commonwealth's marine fisheries and environmental management agency, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC). The continuation of the commercial fisheries statistics program will provide the VMRC the information needed to make timely management decisions and the ability to determine the effects of those decisions.
