Description:In the spring of 1994 the lower 24.0 miles of the Lehigh River were reopened to migratory fishes through the operation of three vertical slot fishways constructed at the Easton and Chain Dams in 1993 and constructed at Hamilton Street Dam in 1983. As part of the Lehigh River American shad Alosa sapidissima restoration program, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has annually stocked marked ( octatetracycline hydrochloride solution, OTC) fry immediately upriver of the Cementon/Northarnpton Dam since 1985 (Table 1). All fry stocked in the Lehigh River have originated from Delaware River gametes taken from adult fish stripped at Smithfield Beach (RM 218.0) and hatched at the PFBC Van Dyke Hatchery in south central Pennsylvania.
