Description:Three elements necessary for the development of shellfish mariculture in the Gulf of Maine are explored in order to increase marine protein production beyond the limits of the capture fishery: comparative growth rate studies of caged sea scallop, artificial substrate for settlement and collection of seed animals, and a gathering of available information for better characterization of the local marine environment are begun.
