Description:The following report describes the results of an initiative funded by the National Marine Fisheries Service to provide alternative economic opportunities to coastal residents impacted by the decline in commercial fishing stocks and the resultant dislocation of hundreds of jobs. The initiative, Working Capital's Fishing Community Entrepreneurship Initiative, was designed to provide an opportunity for individuals in fishing-related occupations to generate an alternative source of income through the establishment of a successful small business. The following report will describe this initiative, summarize its objectives, detail the work that was performed and the project management involved, discuss its findings and accomplishments and evaluate its outcomes.
