Description:This final report summarizes the results of the Fishing Industry Grant project entitled "Exploration of Continental Slope Deep Water Fisheries," awarded to Lauren Jo, Inc. and Captain Walter L. Allyn of Mystic, Connecticut (grant no. NA56FKO109). A description and cost breakout for the outfitting of the vessel, FN Matthew Melissa, for deep mid-water and bottom trawling is given, and a description of the subsequent exploratory effort follows. Landing data are provided in detail for the three most abundant species caught (redfish, red crabs, and monk.fish). Information on the economic returns for the redfish and monkfish are provided. Bridge logs, a diagram of the Swan midwater net, and an unusual species list are included in the appendices. Several new species and records were found among these specimens.
