The 1987 Chesapeake Bay Agreement to restore the Chesapeake Bay provided for the development of a series of fishery management plans (FMPs) addressing species of commercial, recreational, and ecological importance. A Chesapeake Bay FMP establishes the framework for Bay jurisdictions to implement compatible, coordinated management measures to conserve and use a fishery resource.
