Description:The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries participates in ACFCMA by continuing to enhance its staff capabilities in the areas of Information Systems, Fisheries Economics and Population Dynamics. Specifically, these enhanced capabilities allow the Division to develop and conduct more efficient quota monitoring systems; evaluate economic and population dynamics data as it relates to fisheries management plans, including plans developed by both the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Regional Fisheries Management Councils; and assist DMF research and management projects with data entry and information systems development. Unfortunately, due to unfilled vacancies in project positions throughout a good portion of the project period, the project was amended, with some jobs modified or eliminated. A particularly important job was added at the time of the amendment changing the scope of the Fisheries Economist position to a Research Analyst. Also, Acacia Systems was contracted to enhance the Division's commercial fisheries licensing application, FISH2000, upgrade and enhance the Oracle Quota Monitoring database, integrating it with FISH2000, and begin to convert all of the catch reporting databases into a single, ACCSP compliant application, also integrated with FISH2000. Jobs 6 and 7 reflect the new tasks as part of the project amendment.
